ABOUT
The idea of organizing conference on migration and media awareness(CMMA) a forum for media practitioners, journalists, politicians, policy makers, activists civil societies and people with or without flight and migration experience biyearly, was first conceived in 2017 by Larry Macaulay, founder of Refugee Radio Network with close friends and associates who thought it important that intellectual discussions and debates that are often organized by mainstream governmental and non-governmental organizations should also be extended to the grassroots level in solidarity with marginalized groups, migrants / refugees irrespective of his/her location, social class, political position, belief or status and be translated to a platform which would expand the conversation build new Counterculture narrative that lead to a peaceful coexistence of cultures, eliminate the fear of stranger and show the beauty, colors and diversity of a cosmopolitan society.
The CMMA 2021 is a three-day conference which convenes approximately 250 participants from
4 continents, 20 countries and over 100 institutions to engage in discussions with key stake holders, policy makers, educators, social workers, activists, bloggers, journalist, representatives of communities.
This year, CMMA2021 Conference theme is “Looking Back, Thinking Ahead”
The forum combines workshops, panels, debates and cultural formats with top-class experts on the topic of Media, Arts and Migration with focus on helping define what migration of the present should look like and how they will meet the needs of our communities: today and into the future.
Topics such as inclusion, diversity and participation in the media and arts sector (community & mainstream). A discursive exchange on political moods and opinions in the "(post) pandemic era" will take place in analogue and digital form, analysing diversity as a norm and strength and seismographically touching on the coming questions in global discourses.

Details
Since the arrival of hundreds of thousands of refugees in Germany in 2015, the public debate on flight and migration in Germany has intensified. Unfortunately, the various groups of actors involved are often insufficiently familiar with each other. Especially in times of the corona pandemic, informal, personal exchange often takes a back seat. Instead, thinking and acting in "silos" dominates - sometimes combined with mutual prejudices. With this intervention, the collaborative project "Forced Migration and Refugee Research: Networking and Knowledge Transfer" (FFVT) invites actors from politics, public administration, media and the public to a dialogue in order to facilitate an exchange of experiences and knowledge. The aim of the event is to dissolve the above-mentioned "silos" and to enable personal acquaintances between the actors present at the CMMA.

INTERCULTURAL EVENTS
EXHIBITION
Thursday - Saturday 28-30 October 14:00 - 19:00 EXHIBITION Performance formats with positive counter-narratives, social commitment, and exile-born creativity. Live Painting Media collectives Natural Spirits by Nii-Armah Hammond & Ijakadi Okan by Israel Akpan Sunday LOCATION: Kampnagel Internationale Kulturfabrik HALL: K4 |
IJAKADI OKAN builds a bridge between the traditional legends and stories of the Nigerian Yorùbá culture and the present, between the metropolises of Hamburg and Lagos.
In interplay with live music and poetry, Israel Akpan Sunday choreographs the West African tradition of collective storytelling and transfers it into a contemporary context. Moving between traditional and modern African dances, he focuses on the "inner struggles" (translation of the title from the Yorùbá) and human challenges such as dealing with stereotypes and different forms of knowledge transfer. ISRAEL AKPAN SUNDAY is committed to the further development of Nigeria's multicultural resources through his artistic work. Live music, poetry and breaking stereotypes are always part of his creative processes. |

Thousands of refugees are trapped in Libya’s hellish detention centres, where abuse, rape and extortion is rampant. They live in subhuman conditions, awaiting someone – the militia, Europe, the UN, anyone – to decide their fate. We investigate the entire detention system, how this traffic works, the role of the militias and the way in which their control is exercised.
Officially, Libya’s 26 detention centres are run by the GNA, the UN-recognised government in Tripoli. In reality they are in the hands of the militias that control the country, who see migrants as a ready source of cash. The European Union finances the camps but then takes no responsibility for what happens there.
What needs to be changed and what are the solutions? Why is there such a lack of transparency when it comes to the UN’s activities in Tripoli? Europe seems to be at the mercy of Libyan blackmail and the measures taken to help Libya deal with the migrant problem reinforce the cycle of “extreme abuse”

The network „netzwerk medien.vielfalt!“ is a new transcultural network of media makers.
We are media makers with refugee or migration experience. We experience racism and discrimination on a daily basis. There is a lot of talk about us, but almost never with us. We connect people and media projects. We raise our voices and interfere in political debates. We strengthen each other through education and exchange. We create a diverse network for all. We want to make voices heard and understood through the power of media and encourage others to do the same. We see our responsibility in contributing something to change and expand the media landscape in a sustainable way. Our goal is an open, diverse and sustainable society.
Website of the network:
medienvielfalt.de
Our Network contributed to the April edition of the corax magazin with content on the topic „Integration “. The texts and statements were written by members of the nationwide netzwerk medien.vielfalt! Who are all involved in self-organized multilingual radio and podcast projects in cities like Erfurt, Kassel, Freiburg or Stuttgart. The texts provide insight into their individual experiences and perspectives on life in this country and on the demand for "integration" that is constantly being made on us.

Migrant Media Network provides young Africans with reliable information and training on migration issues and social media to make informed decisions and be aware of safer migration options to Europe. #MMN promotes youth entrepreneurship at home as a way to build economic and social resilience, encouraging youth to create their own opportunities and work within their communities.
Members of the Ghanaian and the Gambian diaspora in Berlin are trained and involved in the development of online and offline materials to conduct workshops for young girls and boys in rural regions of Ghana and The Gambia around questions of migration, human smuggling, the ethical use of social media and youth entrepreneurship. Aiming to create a sustainable and growing network of trainers in rural areas, community influencers are engaged to amplify the training, and offline materials are distributed to community leaders in strategic points, such as schools and churches.
